Experience

After graduating from high school, I was an exchange student for a year in a German Gymnasium (higher-level secondary school) in Augsburg, Germany, through a U.S. State Department program. As an exchange student, I attended all classes in German and got to know a lot of German students my age. Throughout the year, I was the official tutor of all the exchange students at my German school, and we would sneak into empty classrooms and I would give them help/lessons in grammar. Through this experience I gained a very profound understanding of the structure and mechanics of the German vocabulary and grammatical system and and more general insight to how languages work. I tested into the 400-level of German at IU. In addition to my experiences with German, I also have a very long background in Spanish including two years of introductory-level tutoring. I took Spanish through level 5 in high school and tested into S326 as a freshman. I also participated in the IU Honors Program and spent a summer in Oviedo, Spain. Aside from German and Spanish, I also took two years of French in high school and am currently learning Arabic. I also participate in Practical English Tutoring for international students, which is very fun and rewarding. I really enjoy tutoring because it gives me new perspectives on different topics and teaches me different ways of thinking. It is also really fun and rewarding to see something click in someone's head for the first time and to then see them succeed in their class.
