Paul S.
Private tutor in Bloomington, IN
Education
I am a first year Philosophy PhD student at Indiana University. I received a B.A. from the State University of New York at Fredonia with a double major in Philosophy and Economics (GPA: 3.92). I received an M.A. in Philosophy from Northern Illinois University (GPA: 3.97). I have extensive experience in public speaking, logic, writing, and critical thinking.
Experience
I worked as both a private tutor and a public sit-down tutor at the Learning Center at SUNY Fredonia. I tutored both philosophy and economics. I worked as a Teaching Assistant at Northern Illinois University for two years. I TA'd informal logic, formal logic, and ethics. I helped students during my office hours and by running review sessions. I have taken a large amount of economics courses, including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics, and Calculus 1. I received an A in every economics course I have ever taken. I have taken a large amount of philosophy courses, so I have written a large amount of argumentative papers. I have also served as a paper referee at professional conferences, and have critically evaluated professional papers by writing and presenting comments. I have also presented my own work at professional conferences, so I have quite a bit of public speaking experience. Finally, I have taken a large amount of logic classes (four), and have excelled in all of them. I have always enjoyed tutoring, and found it rewarding to help others reach their potential. While most of my experience in tutoring and teaching has been at the collegiate level, I have no problem tutoring high school students. I generally have a laid back approach, and students often respond well to this style. I work hard to make sure that the student is always comfortable and this usually leads to positive results.

Hobbies
Academically, my primary interests lie in philosophy, but I've always been interested in economics and politics as well. I enjoy playing sports (pretty much anything) and I am a music, film, and TV lover. I've been thinking of trying my hand at stand-up comedy, but so far I haven't taken the plunge. Again, I am generally laid back and do not have a hard time relating to students.
