Experience
I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in biology with a minor in gender studies at Indiana University. I know from personal experience just how important it is to find a study style that suits you in order to find academic success. I believe it is extremely important to get to know each student in order to discover their learning style, their personal and academic goals, and what they feel is the biggest obstacle standing between them and achieving those goals. Then we can work together to build a plan to work towards those goals. When students see their next test, essay, or assignment as something bigger it can be easier to remain dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. I currently tutor a variety of subjects, including algebra 1, pre-algebra, geometry, middle school math, writing, math, English, literature, Spanish 1, languages, high school English, college English, and comparative literature. I also help students who are preparing for upcoming exams such as the SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT. Regardless of the subject area a student is struggling with, I believe there is a way to help them make progress and gain a greater level of understanding. It may take time and some experimentation to find out what method works best for them as individuals, but with patience I believe it can be done.
